Engineering for systems that have to hold up

Irrational Solution is a data, AI and solutions engineering firm in New York. We work on systems already in production, and the people who scope your work are the people who build it.

  • Senior from the first call

The people on your fit call do the work. Nothing is handed down to a junior bench.

  • Every finding from the code

We read your repository, not a slide deck, and each finding comes with its evidence.

  • Fixed fees, agreed first

Every engagement is scoped and priced in writing before work starts, so you know the cost up front.

  • Yours to keep

Reports, specs, tests and runbooks stay with your team, so it can carry on without us.

Where our experience comes from

Eric Henschel founded the firm. He built production data systems at Bloomberg and Assured Guaranty, is the founding engineer at GreenRoom Technologies Inc. and holds a degree in applied mathematics. Below is the kind of work the firm brings to yours.

Bloomberg

  • On the team whose data feeds the Terminal's company-financials functions: FA, EE, MODL and ESG.
  • Built a Kafka migration for ESG company data used in quantitative research: 6,500+ companies, with 45% lower query latency.
  • Built normalized bank-filing pipelines for Terminal credit analysis.

Assured Guaranty

  • Built the data pipeline into a Snowflake warehouse modeled as Data Vault 2.0, bringing in vendor data from Bloomberg, Moody's, ICE and MMD (Refinitiv). New data sources onboarded 85% faster.
  • Built a regression parameter optimization for catastrophe-risk modeling across a search space of more than 100 million combinations. Calibration that had run for 10 to 16 days finished in about two hours.

Intelligent Automation, Inc.

  • An R&D contractor to the U.S. Department of Defense and other federal agencies. It was acquired by BlueHalo in 2021, and BlueHalo is now part of AeroVironment.
  • Improved wind-speed prediction accuracy by 26% for autonomous-drone systems, and built a social-bot detection workflow that was deployed.

OXYS

  • An industrial IoT and edge-computing company in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
  • Built an anomaly detection model for a global biotech company's large-volume vaccine production line, to flag likely quality problems before they cost product.
  • Built time-series ETL and anomaly detection across more than a million traffic-sensor records in PostgreSQL and AWS.
